The bulls at Midland were weighed off test on Friday 3/15/02 and I was very pleased with the performance of the 3 Meadow Mist bulls. We had the #1 WDA bull (test #399, tattoo 848). He had an ADG of 3.85 R 117, an adj YW of 1502# R 124, and a station index R 115 sc 38.5 (out of 620 bulls on test). That is quite good for the last calf of the 2001 crop as you well know the last fellow usually has a tough time catching up.
This calf is sired by Meadow Mist 033 30 811 a full brother to the bull that topped the 1997 Profit Maker Bull test in Ogalalla Ne and he is the one and only show bull in 42 years at MMF farms. I just decided that I would not send this ET bull to PMB for a repeat performance but instead will have him shown to see how well he would do in the show ring. John Hausner is my partner in this bull and he has done a fantastic job of showing the bull. Some of this bull's show ring winnings include: Atlantic National - reserve early spring bull calf champion, Grand champion bull Eastern National and senior champion bull Atlantic National etc. etc.. I guess that this all means that the bull looked good in the show ring.
I have a full sibling to the "811" bull at the farm - a 2 year old heifer (reg # 13542252) with a 1/17/02 bull calf by GT Sentry at side and he is a good one. The most interesting thing about this heifer is that she had the top REA in a cont. group of 12 heifers R114 and there were 3 BR New Design 036 and 1 Gar Precision 1680 heifers in that group.
The Dam (cow #947) of the test station # 399 posts 6 calves with an ave WWR of 108. Another interesting item about this cow is that she had 2 ET calves by GAR Precision tested at Profit Maker this year. Click HERE for the stats of all 13 calves tested (the calves out of cow 947 are Tattoo # 837 and # 840). The ultrasound data is excellent and the EPDs that the measurements generated are tremendous on these 2 Precision calves.
My favorite bull calf during the preweaning growth phase was Midland test # 397 and he finished in the #7 spot WDA 3.75, with a ADG of 3.62 R 110 adj. 365 day weight of 1432 R 119 station index 109 sc 38.5. He is sired by Circle A 2000 Plus and out of a DHD traveler 6807 daughter. Click HERE to see a picture of him and a link to his mom (check the Profitmaker Bulls website and you can see the performance of this cow's 2 ET Calves 1 by BR New DEsign 036 and 1 by Ankonian Elixir 100 they are Tattoo # 832 and #839. Please click on the request for the data table).
The third bull is at Midland Station is #398. This bull is a Circle A 2000 plus calf out of a first calf heifer by TC Stockman 365. He was the #14 bul WDA 3.66, ADG of 3.29 R100 adj. 365 1414# R 117 station index 105 sc 36.5.
I will post the Ultra sound data on the web site as soon as it is completed ie. approximately 3/25/02.
I suppose it is a good idea to remind you that The Midland test is the only major western test to feed a 70% roughage ration with half of the grain being whole oats. This type of approach should assure the buyer that these cattle will work in a great diversity of enviroments.

This bull was the record breaking performer at last years PMB test ie. the
highest
performing calf out of 10,500 bulls tested. “ 826”
was tested in a contemporary group of
355 bulls and fed a ration formulated for a gain of 3.5# per day.
He is at Rocky Mountain Sires, Bennet, CO.

We will have 10 calves by this bull in Jan. and Feb. 2002. At the present
time he is being
used in natural service at Kiowa Creek Ranch, CO. This will be a
large sire evaluation
test using several reference sires . Semen should be available for
spring 2002 breeding season.

in Columbus Montana at day 60 of the test, ( Midland test # 397 ADG- 4.45 R 140

bull calf at Midland.
