Why are tails) docked at the Australian Cattle Dogs (blue heelers?

Stupid questions, but I've always wondered this! I would think they would need their tails for balance, while navigating through the cattle and make quick turns, etc. We have a heeler years. My husband wanted a "Cattle Dog" I was looking high and low for a breeder that does not dock the tail. I do not remember if they are docked or undocked in dog shows. But where I live Heelers are a common farm dog and typically have a docked tail. We had to travel aways Queenie finally got … No docked tail. Does anyone have a good reason why they would be docked? I can come with Velcro … We need to get them out of work Queenies tail all the time. But when you see her cutting a Cow you will notice, balance it definitley is using its tail. … Thanks Loki tail never worry about being stepped on, could very well done! Still prefer our Stock dog with a tail: o)

Breed standard calls for an undocked tail. However, farm dogs are still docked frequently. They are docked for the same reason other Cattle Breeds will be docked. To avoid being the cause of cattle on the tail strengthened or caught in a gate and injuries. You are also right that the working conditions of farm dogs would be more prone to pick up burs there tails. While you take the time to review your dog tails, and the drill not many out and the drill their way into a work injury.

Summertime on a Swiss alp: snowcapped mountains veiled in a light haze, blue skies, rich meadows, fat cows. Cowbells are ringing. A man is sitting on a rock, trying to attract the animal silently to him. The picture could result kitschy if it weren’t for the fact that the herdsman is a Peul from Burkina Faso, wearing a turban to protect him from the cold. This image is about midway of the film Enc…
